Mr. Brashear is one of the co-founders and Principal Owners of CSI. He oversees all operational and financial activities for the company.
Mr. Brashear has integrated his knowledge and experience to lead the day-to-day critical services for CSI. He is responsible for management and has the necessary vision to ensure that the company has proper operational controls, financial controls, administrative reporting procedures, and systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.
In addition, Mr. Brashear oversees all construction activities for CSI. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in implementing construction services, QA/QC programs and performing geotechnical laboratory testing and Special Inspection services. He has a long record of successfully managing and developing field investigation programs, performing and overseeing field-testing services on a variety of projects throughout the geotechnical, civil, environmental and construction/engineering industry. As the construction services leader, he maintains quality as a primary goal, setting the example with over 15 personal industry certifications including NICET Level IV and a Master of Special Inspections (MSI).
His specific areas of expertise include; shallow foundations, drilled piers, auger cast and driven pile foundations, ground/site improvement (geosynthetics, lime/soilcement, and pre-loading), special inspections and construction materials testing for soil, masonry, asphalt, concrete, structural steel and fireproofing, floor profiling for industrial floor flatness and levelness, structural assessment and structural troubleshooting and landfill QA/QC. He has worked on construction projects in 14 states under almost every site condition known. Mr. Brashear is recognized as a leader in the landfill construction testing industry for Solid Waste, Power Facilities and Superfund sites.
Mr. Brashear’s experience and knowledge of geotechnical engineering along with his strategic planning, risk management, and technical support staff development has helped evolve CSI into a recognized leader in the industry.
Mr. Cooke has been providing engineering and construction services almost his entire life. Growing up in a family residential construction business, he has always been involved in building and improving our planet. This continued with his engineering education, gaining both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1995 and 2000, respectively. Since working full-time through college, beginning with Law Engineering, Mr. Cooke has gained additional engineering and construction experience on a wide variety of projects and with a large number of clientele and industries. He continued his career at two other top 50 ENR firms as a department, client and service line leader, prior to co-founding CSI in 2009. His experience allows Mr. Cooke to have the professional leadership necessary for his role at CSI as the Director of Engineering.
He maintains an active role in professional organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers, Kentucky Geotechnical Engineering Group and the Society of American Military Engineers. Further, he serves as a constant servant leader in the community by being heavily involved in local schools and his church.
His work experience includes services in the geotechnical, construction, construction testing/inspection and environmental engineering fields. His project experience includes over 1,500 projects, encompassing projects as large as over 1,000 acres, buildings as large as 1.5 million square feet, "portfolio” work on as many as 40 projects in one package, and linear projects as long as 40 miles. His specific specialties include earthwork issues, construction materials and project performance, forensic analysis of geotechnical and materials issues, geotechnical design and planning, large project planning and geotechnical-related construction planning and analysis.
Mr. Cooke’s professional goal is to serve clients (and their clients) in a way that avoids their headaches. This includes saving clients' time and money by providing solutions to problems. He is an expert on finding solutions for geotechnical issues,soils issues, construction materials engineering, construction methods, geotechnical design, schedule reduction, cost savings and value engineering.
Lastly, solving clients problems is only part of the picture: establishing a completely functional relationship for both the client and CSI is the big picture that he ascribes to in his daily efforts. The end goal is to be a successful business leader through continuously improving our client's success. The result is that we all win!
Mr. Hatcher is an Associate Owner of the Lexington, Kentucky office. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, both from the University of Kentucky. Joining CSI in January 2010 as the Chief Engineer, he is responsible for the overall direction of the corporation and the assurance of high quality engineering service to the clients. Mr. Hatcher provides support for projects requiring expertise in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and inspection services as well as environmental engineering studies.
Mr. Hatcher has extensive experience in the fields of civil and geotechnical engineering, construction engineering, materials testing and analysis. His primary experience includes technical direction of geotechnical engineering projects,geotechnical field investigations, and analyses for numerous public and private sector clients. Much of his geotechnical engineering experience has been gained from working on projects in the areas of dam design and evaluation, shallow and deep foundation systems, earthworks and site development, soil improvement techniques,sinkhole investigation, pavement design, and various pipeline projects, including the use of trench-less technologies. Other project experience includes management of Quality Assurance/Quality Control activities. Predominant project experience includes levee, embankment and other large projects of similarity. He has also worked on numerous large retaining walls and flood walls. He has successfully completed geotechnical explorations and geotechnical design work on many of the larger utility and infrastructure projects in the Ohio and Tennessee River Valleys. He holds Engineering licenses in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Indiana and Arkansas.
Mr. Hatcher’s expertise, talent and strategic understanding of the geotechnical engineering industry is a much needed strength as we advance our presence and expand our services.
Mr. Hansen is an Associate Owner of the Cincinnati Ohio office. He holds a Business Administration degree from the University of Cincinnati. Joining CSI in December 2012 as the Director of Operations for Ohio, he is responsible for the overall operations of the Cincinnati, Ohio office with respects to professional experience that our clients can rely upon.
Mr. Hansen brings over 21 years of construction materials testing and International Building Code (IBC) Special Inspection experience. He has managed large projects throughout Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, Florida, Illinois, West Virginia and California. His experience is derived from all types of materials, including both laboratory and field materials testing for landfill systems, structures, earthwork compaction, cement and lime stabilization of soils, auger cast and driven pile foundations, drilled pier foundations, cast-in-place concrete evaluations, masonry walls, asphalt pavements, structural steel, cold-formed metal, sprayed-on fireproofing, roofing systems, foundation water-proofing, epoxy anchor tension, floor flatness and levelness and other tests as required. His experience also includes providing landfill Quality Assurance and Control services on projects throughout Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Indiana.
Mr. Hansen has managed and performed laboratory testing services for Standard& Modified Proctors for clay, aggregate, fly ash, and lime stabilized materials; Atterberg Limits; California Bearing Ratio (CBR) testing; Gradation testing of clay and aggregate materials; hydrometer, soil permeability, unconfined compressive strength,soil classification, moisture content, relative density, consolidation, direct shear, and specific gravity; Concrete; concrete compressive strength testing; concrete flexural strength testing; concrete maturity testing, asphalt extraction and gradations; PVCand GCL liner.
Mr. Hansen’s strengths include working with the client through multi-level communications during the project to assure the anticipated deliverable is met. This is a critical component necessary to solidify client relationships.
Mr. Burkhardt is an Associate Owner of the Cincinnati, Ohio office. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky. Joining CSI in May of 2014, he serves as a Principal Engineer and Engineering department manager for CSI’s Ohio operations.
Mr. Burkhardt brings over 16 years of experience in the fields of construction materials engineering, and geotechnical engineering fields. He is recognized as an expert in retaining structure design and problem soil sites. He has performed engineering consulting services on a variety of projects, including: commercial-, industrial-, and government-owned geotechnical site evaluations, shallow- and deep-foundation systems analyses and design, roadway and pavement system design and analyses, embankment analyses and design, slope stability analyses, settlement monitoring programs, instrumentation programs and geophysical explorations. He holds Engineering licenses in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Maryland and West Virginia.
Mr. Burkhardt’s expertise and creativity in solving project problems over the years has gave him a deep appreciation of how to improve the quality of life for our region, one project at a time.
Mr. Ken Hanna is an Associate Owner of the Cincinnati, Ohio office. He holds a Bachelor of Science from University of Cincinnati. He has over 25 years of experience in the construction materials testing and special inspections fields. He serves as Director of Projects for CSI’s Ohio operations. His primary assignment within the organization is management of construction materials laboratory, construction testing and special inspection services performed by our special inspections and construction materials testing services group.
Mr. Hanna also serves as Senior Project Manager and over the course of his career he has managed Quality Control and Quality Assurance for a large range of projects projects in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Ken has managed CQA/QA testing and performed testing and inspection services for all types of materials, including both laboratory and field materials testing for landfill systems, structures, earthwork compaction, cement and lime stabilization of soils, auger cast and driven pile foundations, drilled pier foundations, cast-in-place concrete evaluations, masonry walls, asphalt pavements, structural steel, cold-formed metal, sprayed-on-fireproofing, roofing systems, foundation water-proofing, epoxy anchor tension, floor flatness and levelness and other tests as required.
